Survival Action Alert on legislative action this week

Survival Coalition is urging members to take action this week on 3 important issues that issue teams have been working on. Call your legislators by Tuesday (you can leave a message over the long holiday weekend) on the following issues:

— SB 527 – The Seclusion and Restraint Bill will be voted on in the full Senate on Tuesday, Jan. 21. These common sense changes to the law create more transparency in reporting by requiring annual reporting to families through individual incident reports. This bill has been supported by advocacy organizations, public school organizations, and the Department of Public Instruction. Call your Senator and ask them to pass SB 527, which provides technical fixes to Wisconsin’s existing law.

–LRB-3165 and LRB-5380 – the ABLE bill. ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience. Bi-partisan legislators have just introduced an ABLE bill that would require the state Department of Financial Institutions to start an ABLE program. — LRB 2596 – The Guardianship Training bill provides free online training to family and volunteer guardians about the role, responsibilities and other important features of Wisconsin’s guardianship law before they are appointed. Ask your Assembly and Senate rep to sign on as a co-sponsor.
